Breakdown
Man of La Mancha:
Miguel de Cervantes/Alonso Quijana/ Don Quixote: Plays both a tax collector and a knight. Charismatic, energetic, sympathetic, full of unshakeable faith in the inherent goodness of humankind. Must be able to transform from the author Cervantes into the character Don Quixote. Tall and thin, a man of gentle courtliness leavened by humor. He is in his late forties but his dominant qualities are childlike ingenuousness, a grave and endless curiosity about human behavior, candor which is very nearly self-destructive. He has, too, the childs delight in play-acting.
Cervantes manservant/Sancho Panza: A comic role; Cervantes' manservant and "stage manager"; a pragmatic, loyal servant and sidekick; old as or older than his master, short, rotund, and suspicious; an illiterate and shrewd peasant primarily interested in eating and drinking.
Aldonza (also plays Dulcinea): the serving wench at a roadside inn, whom Quixote names Dulcinea
Dulcinea (played by Aldonza):
Her life is transformed by Don Quixotes belief in her; wild and lusty; must be prepared for vocal and physical demands of the role; will be "man handled" and must have dance ability. A savage alley cat, veteran if not always victor of many backfence tussles.
The Governor: the leader of the prison inmates.
The Innkeeper (played by The Governor): A strong but kind and sympathetic man.
Maria: The innkeeper's shrewish wife.
Antonia: Alonso Quijanas niece; worried about the effect of her uncle's madness on her upcoming marriage to Dr. Carrasco.
Dr. Carrasco: The prosecutor of Cervantes' case; Antonia's fiancé; a man of breeding, intelligence and logic; disguises himself as the Knight of the Mirrors.
The Padre: A man whose own convictions are challenged by meeting Don Quixote; wise and kind; sets wheels in motion to turn Alonso from his madness and persuade him to return home.
The Housekeeper: Alonso Quijana's strong housekeeper who is full of hope for her master.
Pedro, the head muleteer: A rough, sturdy muleteer.
The Barber: Traveling barber/doctor whose shaving basin/hat is believed, by Quixote, to be the Golden Helmet of Mambrino. A comic role.
Captain of the Inquisition: An imposing, cruel man.
Fermina: A servant girl.
Moorish Dancer: Gypsy girl who dances lasciviously and accompanies herself with a nasal whine; Don Quixote finds her charming; Sancho believes her to be a trollop.

Camelot:
King Arthur/Wart: The once and future King; Arthur is wise generous, compassionate, and boyishrather unsure of himself, yet is an inspiration to others.
Queen Guenevere: Queen of Camelot; King Arthur's bride who falls in love with Lancelot; a young and spirited girl who is caught up in chivalry and the exciting possibilities of a promising life; she loves Arthur, but is very much thrown by the arrival of Lancelot.
Lancelot Du Lac: Knight of the Round Table; an abundantly self-assured yet amazingly talented and passionate French knight who falls in love with Queen Guenevere.
Merlin: The wise wizard who tutors Arthur; he disappears after the second scene in the show; non-singing role.
Sir Pellinore: A comic and stuffily British elderly knight; dedicated friend to Arthur; very eccentric.
Mordred: The evil young, illegitimate son of Arthur. Sired by Arthur when the king was young and naïve; a thoroughly and fascinatingly unlikable fellow.
Tom Mallory of Warwick: A young, hopeful boy who wants to join King Arthurs army and become a Knight of The Round Table.
