Continuing its tradition of engaging audiences of all ages during the holiday season, Two River will premiere a new musical, A Wind in the Willows Christmas, in December 2012. Based on the childrens classic, A Wind in the Willows Christmas is the fifth collaboration between Grammy-winner Mike Reid and Sarah Schlesinger; their musical In This House had its world premiere at Two River last season. Mindi Dickstein wrote the lyrics for the Broadway musical Little Women. Amanda Dehnert has been nationally acclaimed for reimagining classic musicals including My Fair Lady and Annie. A Wind in the Willows Christmas was commissioned and developed by Two River Theater.
Seeking:
Mole
Male, 20s. Any ethnicity. No one likes the Mole and he knows it. A dreamer who longs for a home, a place where moles are liked and there are tinkly bells and the sound of Christmas carols, a place where he can belong. Instinctively wise, resourceful, likeable and humble. He refuses to feel sorry for himself despite his lonely life. A strong singer/actor with comic timing. Looking to create an ensemble of quirky, interesting and different types and physicalities.
Ratty
Male, 20s. Any ethnicity. Ratty is always ready to go someplace and learn something new. Everybody knows him in the Willows but no one knows him well. A lonely and a misunderstood poet, he is stuck in a job he hates as commissioner of the Willows. He can be snarly one minute and lost in poetry another. Frustrated and independent, he learns to admire Mole and appreciate friends. A strong singer/actor with comic timing. Looking to create an ensemble of quirky, interesting and different types and physicalities.
Mr. Toad
Male, 30s to 50s. Any ethnicity. He was born into wealth and is able to indulge his obsessions with grown-up toys, like speed boats and, especially, sport cars. He is cheerfully spoiled and conceited, and loves to show off his expensive possessions. His arrogance, frivolous spending, and recklessness cause trouble in the Willows. A strong singer/actor with comic timing. Looking to create an ensemble of quirky, interesting and different types and physicalities.
Dr. Badger
Male. 30s to 50s. Any ethnicity. An indulgent intellectual who is given to pronouncements rather than deep insights. He enjoys doling out his words of wisdom. Slow-moving, patient, and thoughtful.His life is spent surrounded by books, though he doesnt necessarily know as much as he thinks he knows. Seeking a strong musical-theatre baritone with comic timing. Looking to create an ensemble of quirky, interesting and different types and physicalities.
Mrs. Otter
Female. 30s to 50s. Any ethnicity. Above all else, she is a mother. She has a strong work ethic, but her view of the world is based on traditionshe prizes routine, rather than imagination. She is passionately devoted to the idea of making her son Portly into the best possible fisherman who has ever lived in the Willows. Though an over-protective, and at times, overbearing mother, she loves her son and only wants him to succeed. A strong singer/actor with comic timing. Looking to create an ensemble of quirky, interesting and different types and physicalities.
Little Portly
Male or Female to play a teenage boy. Any ethnicity. Mrs. Otters son. He loves to eat and wants to be a chef when he grows upputting different foods together is his way of being an artist. He knows his own mind. Spunky, cheerful and ambitious. Hes rebelling against the family tradition of being a fisherman, but not rebelling against his family. A strong singer/actor with comic timing. Looking to create an ensemble of quirky, interesting and different types and physicalities.
Weasel 1 & Weasel 2
Male or Female. Any ethnicity. Obsessed with stuff, driven by primal need, these weasels are a bit of an Abbott and Costello duo (a big weasel and a small/wiry one), except neither is the smart one. Sneaky and silly, they are little devils who cause lots of trouble. These roles also play various other animals in the Willows. Strong singer/actors with comic timing. Looking to create an ensemble of quirky, interesting and different types and physicalities.
